Every sale made through Shopify involves two separate costs that affect your net profit: a payment processing fee charged by your card processor, and in some cases an additional Shopify transaction fee if you are not using Shopify Payments. Understanding both is necessary to price products correctly and avoid surprises when you reconcile monthly revenue against your bank deposits.
Shopify Payments fees vary by plan. The Basic plan charges 2.9% + $0.30 per online transaction in the US, the Shopify plan charges 2.6% + $0.30, and the Advanced plan charges 2.4% + $0.30. In-person card-present transactions through Shopify POS typically carry lower percentage rates. If you use a third-party payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds an extra transaction fee on top of your gateway's own processing fee — ranging from 0.5% to 2% depending on your plan tier.
